Houston Restaurants Guide

There's a variety of restaurants in Houston for just about every preference known to man. But we suggest that when you're in Houston, you experience time-honored Texas cuisine by tucking into some down-south barbecue joint.

They say that the barbecue is only as good as the recipe (well Texans think the choice of meat is important too!), and Houston restaurants specializing in southern barbecue all have their own unique versions.

The Hickory Hollow, with three restaurants in Houston gives all the others a run for their money by serving some of the tastiest and most tender barbecue around. This restaurant has such a "Green Acres" feel to it that you'll feel like you've transported to another time and place, with farmland as far as the eye can see. The "regulars" who frequent the Hickory Hollow are a mix of both locals and visitors to Houston, and hail from all walks of life. The decor, both inside and out, is plain and simple.

The owners have been known to say that the plainer the decor, the better the food. Well one meal at Hickory Hollow proves the claim is true. You can be sure to find friendly service, comfortable surroundings and best of all simply delicious barbecue.

Another uniquely Texas restaurant is the Texas Land and Cattle Steak house off Katy Freeway in Houston.

Claiming that the "Virtues of the Old West live on" at their restaurant, they serve USDA choice steaks, chicken, ribs and seafood, all grilled over a mesquite fire.

Houston Restaurants and Dining GuideSkeeter's Grill is a great family-friendly restaurant chain, whose recipe for success is good food, at reasonable prices, in an environment that kids and parents can both enjoy.

In fact, Skeeter's was once called the sports bar for 10-year-olds because on weekends you'll find Little League teams fresh from the fields, moms with tots in tow, and young couples stopping in for lunch while out for Saturday errands.

If you want to see how the locals live, you'll find plenty of them at Skeeters on the weekends and most other days as well. The menu is simple and inexpensive; the barbecue tasty and with its varied choices even the pickiest pint-sized young'in will find something he or she likes.

For the grown ups cold beer is on tap and soft drinks are served along with teas and bottled water.

When visiting Houston, try traditional "down south" barbecue! After all, that's what we're know for: Great food and great hospitality, and barbecue is our pride and joy of Texas cuisine!
